Event Description:
“Let’s go fly a kite!” The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival, the BEST festival in the East Bay, is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, May 26 - 27 of Memorial Day Weekend in San Ramon’s Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd. from 11am to 6pm both days. This annual event features a variety of fine arts, crafts and specialty food vendors as well as 4 stages of entertainment with a variety of music performers and dancers. Enjoy eats from 2 food courts and experience our family amusement zones, professional choreographed kite flying demonstrations, a helicopter landing, free kite making workshop and much more! The Art and Wind Festival is pet friendly and admission is always FREE. ENTERTAINMENT LINE UP The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival has a fantastic line-up of entertainment on 4 stages featuring dance groups, vocal performances, exciting bands and more! A wide variety of dance and talented music groups will be featured on the Alcosta Stage and Bishop Ranch Amphitheater Stage, including community drumming, belly dance, ballet, jazz dance, as well as Indian dance. Don’t miss Sunday’s diverse lineup starting with Native Elements performing Reggae and Island Soul music at 11:00am and the popular 925 Band playing your favorite hits of the decades at 1:30pm. Next up, the Stealin’ Chicago tribute band will be closing the day with Chicago’s best known songs. Monday will begin with the booming sounds of fan favorite Eden Aoba Taiko, a talented Japanese Taiko drumming group at 11:00am. We’ll relax into the afternoon with Crawdad Republic playing the best of Folk & Americana from 12:30 – 2:30pm. Then the Memorial Day Program will take the stage at 3:00pm honoring those that have served our country. Lastly, a festival highlight of late Monday afternoon will be Caravanserai, a Carlos Santana tribute band playing Latin and world music that will have you up dancing on your feet! The stage is located on the grassy field adjacent to the tennis courts, so bring your lawn chairs and blankets. PROFESSIONAL KITE FLYING DEMONSTRATIONS Make sure to check out the awe-inspiring choreographed professional kite flying demonstrations. The kite flying demonstrations take place both Sunday and Monday through the day. Find some space to sit back and relax while watching the artistry that is kite flying. FEATURED PUPPET SHOW On Sunday and Monday, May 26 & 27, the Luce Puppet Company will present Circus Fantastico! at 1:30 p.m., Zomo the Trickster Rabbit at 2:30 p.m. and The Reluctant Dragon at 3:30 p.m. Under the artistic direction of award winning puppeteer Elizabeth Luce, Luce Puppet Company has put on hundreds of live performances for family audiences. Their shows tour theaters, festivals, and public events all over California. Luce Puppet Company provides an experience that’s full of fun and fantasy, and has lots of interaction and a chance for the kids to exercise their own imaginations! INTERACTIVE KIDS ZONE The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival is known for its family friendly atmosphere and lots to do especially for children! A free kite making workshop, face painting and free crafts, as well as family friendly music and performances will return this year to entertain children and adults alike. In addition to the puppet shows and entertainment, the Art and Wind Festival features two exciting KIDS ZONES, with rides and amusements. Plus, the Mobile Visitors Center from East Bay Regional Park District. Connecting kids to nature, the center will feature hands on displays and activities. Make sure to check out the San Ramon Police and San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District as they demonstrate the Jaws of Life, Hands-only CPR and K-9 demonstration during the festival. For a little more excitement also stop by the tethered balloon demonstration, professional skateboard & scooter demonstrations and stay for the Sunday helicopter landing. ARTISTS GET CREATIVE Enjoy browsing the many fine arts and crafts vendors at the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. This event highlights 100 talented artists from California and beyond exhibiting and selling their work over Memorial Day weekend. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety of beautifully hand-crafted items including paintings, photographs, jewelry, clothing, pottery, toys, kites and more. Each year, the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival commissions an artist to create the festival artwork. The 2019 design is by local artist Susan Deming, who will also have her artwork on display in the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery (located inside the San Ramon Community Center). Susan will be hosting a Festival Poster Signing & Meet the Artist in the gallery during the festival on Monday from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Come by and view the gallery exhibit and pick up a FREE signed festival commemorative poster featuring Susan’s unique artwork. FREE BIKE VALET SERVICE Sports Basement of San Ramon will provide FREE valet bike parking at the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. In addition, Sports Basement is providing each person who valets their bicycle a 20% off coupon for store merchandise. Just follow the signs to the location adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail. The public is encouraged to ride their bikes to the festival and take advantage of this free service. This allows you to enjoy the event without worrying about the safety of your bike. Biking helps reduce your carbon footprint as it is environmentally friendly, saves you money on gas and helps you stay healthy. The valet bike parking will be available both days of the festival and is conveniently located next to the Iron Horse Trail, an accessible bike path that runs from Concord to Pleasanton. Another great reason to ride your bike is the free helmet fitting for children. Street Smarts is providing bike helmet inspections & fittings inside City Hall, daily during the festival from 12:00-2:00pm.
