On Wednesday, April 3rd, Junior Achievement will host high school students from 14 area schools at the first JA Social Innovation Camp at Bishop Ranch. The JA Social Innovation Camp is a one-day, intensive learning experience where students apply entrepreneurial and collaborative 21st century skills by solving societal challenges within the community. High school students work in groups and participate in brainstorming/idea generating and ice-breaking techniques and exercises. At the end of the day, student teams will present their business ideas to a panel of judges and winners will be awarded cash prizes. Teams will be judged on innovation, creativity, practicality, and teamwork of the students. Throughout the day, students will be mentored and judged by members of the local business community, including employees and executive team members from Sunset Development Company, Robert Half International, Chevron, AT&T, PG&E, and Jones Lang LaSalle. This connection with the business community will give students direct access and feedback as to how their business concepts and ideas may, or may not, apply in the real-world. Contact Julie Strand at jstrand@janorcal.org for company sponsorship information or go to http://bit.ly/Z2WeEe to sign up to volunteer.
