Sheep Shearing Day at Forest Home Farms

The San Ramon Historic Foundations presents Sheep Shearing Day 2013 at Forest Home Farms Historic Park. Sheep Shearing is one of the San Ramon Historic Foundations largest annual events drawing over 1000 people to the farm. It is an opportunity for community members of all ages to come together and enjoy a day on the farm while learning and having fun. Over 100 sheep will receive their annual haircut and provide an opportunity for us to observe how sheep are sheared. You will see how their wool is removed, cleaned and spun into yarn all while the sheep dogs are herding the next sheep in line to get their haircut. During your day on the farm you will have an opportunity to browse around the historic buildings and visit with any of the following demonstrators that have confirmed their participation in this year?s event: Sheep 4 Ewe (skirt fleece), Treadles to Threads (spinning wheels in hand), Spindles & Flyers Spinning Guild (will have spindles and fiber for visitors to try; plus soap and tubs to teach felting), and the Tassajara 4-H group (show animals and discuss husbandry). There will also be food, music, crafts and games for children, tractor and train rides and the valley?s largest display of ?Hit and Miss? irrigation engines.
