Lindsey Shephard of GoldieBlox, the toy company on a mission to inspire the next generation of female engineers, will reveal how, despite industry resistance, the firm was able to develop and launch a best-selling, award-winning toy that engages girls in tinkering and building. Former San Ramon Fire Chief Richard Price will describe the circumstances that yielded PulsePoint, a smart phone application that alerts CPR-trained individuals to nearby life-threatening emergencies. Maestro Michael Morgan from the Oakland East Bay Symphony will reveal how orchestras and music in general can reach across economic, racial, ethnic, generational and religious lines to build a community.
